Tapies' paintings, drawings and sculptures, incorporating elements of collage have drawn me to research his work in more detail. Many of the works play on the tension between accident and design and our puzzlement about what has happened by chance and what has been engineered. He usually uses marks, symbols and materials in a more minimal way than I do in my collage. Makes me consider being more selective with the elements I use. Moulding hessian and other fabric over everyday items is also seen in his earlier works and gives an interesting dimension of relief.

Würsa (18 000 Km from earth).
Sculpture by Daniel Firman for the exhibition Superdome at the Palais de Tokyo.
That's what an elephant can do at 18 000 Km from earth gravity. This is very impressive and
also promotes a great deal of humour.
I have been trying to get my hessian constructs to be self supporting - maybe I could learn something about technique by studying taxidermy.

Listening to the talk Kate Liston gave about her previous and current work, reinforced the importance and usefulness of archiving "temporary" sculptural works and installations using video. Even making the video the sole means to exhibit the work.
